What Is a Green Kitchen

A green or environment-friendly kitchen should include the following features:

1.Grade E1 Materials
Normally, there are several materials used in kitchen cabinets, not matter solid wood, bamboo, particle board, plywood or MDF, it must complied with the standard of European Grade E1.

2.Low VOC Finishes
Green kitchen should also have low-VOC finishes. These can include paints, stains, natural oil finishes and waterborne clear finishes that release few volatile organic compounds into the environment.

3.Low or No Formaldehyde
Urea formaldehyde has been used in adhesives that are found in a wide variety of wood and wood-based products for many years. Although low levels of formaldehyde may not pose a threat, the substance has been identified as a human carcinogen by the World Health Organization.
Some people are much more sensitive to formaldehyde exposure than others. Symptoms can include watery eyes; burning sensation in the eyes, nose and throat; coughing; nausea; and skin irritation.
So low or no formaldehyde is the key element for a “green” and “environment-friendly” kitchen.

4.Energy saving and safety design
Mostly, energy saving and safety requires the water supply, electricity supply, gas supply and lighting should be took into consideration when designing the kitchen, enable the kitchen running in low power consuming and serve your family in more safe way.

5.Durable Construction
An often-overlooked component of green products is durability: How long will they last before needing to be disposed of and replaced? Good-quality cabinets should be able to provide at least 10 years of solid service. Poorly constructed products made from environmentally friendly materials are hard to call "green".

Kitchen Layout Designs

How a kitchen is used on a daily basis and what arrangement of kitchen cabinets, appliances and work areas will function most efficiently are two questions that the best kitchen layout designs should take into consideration. Whether it’s a new kitchen design or a kitchen remodel, how you design a kitchen layout will establish the foundation for all the other design elements that will go into the room.

Basically, there are five typical kitchen layouts used in kitchen design:

1.Island Layout

A very popular kitchen type, the island layout is perfect if you plan to entertain but requires more floor space. An independent island unit can face a dining or living area, allowing the cook to socialize while preparing. A sink here provides the optimal arrangement in terms of the kitchen’s working triangle. Otherwise, a cooktop with a canopy over the island can form a stunning focal point to the kitchen.
Features:
• Plenty of counter and cabinet space
• Ideal for larger families needing extra storage space
• Can convert one cabinet leg into a breakfast bar or entertaining area
• Multiple cooks can function well in this layout

2.Single Galley Layout

For long narrow rooms, the single galley is the simplest layout. Single galleys work best with the sink in the middle and the other appliances built in or underneath the surface to make the most of the available space. It is important to have ample space either above or beside the oven to allow for placement of pans, pots and hot trays etc.
Features:
• Works well with the open designs found in many contemporary homes
• Ideal for apartments and smaller homes
• Small moveable table can provide eating space
• Can be enhanced with the addition of an island

3.Corridor Layout

This layout offers the most efficient use of space, making it the choice of many professional chefs. The two rows allow room for lots of preparation space, and moving between activity areas can be as easy as turning around. However, this shape is not ideal if the corridor is open at both ends, since it can cause traffic congestion. It is important to ensure that there is enough room between the two lines of units (at least 1.2m).
Feature:
• Appliances are close to one another
• Great for smaller kitchens
• Easy for one cook to maneuver
• Can easily convert to a U-Shape by closing off one end

4.U-shaped Layout

The use of three full walls in a room offers the perfect working kitchen. The fridge, range and sink can be spaced out for maximum efficiency and convenience. This is great news for those who take your cooking seriously, as it provides the best workflows with the shortest distances around the kitchen. This shape also allows for large amounts of countertop and storage space.
Feature:
• Provides plenty of counter space
• Perfect for families who use their kitchens a great deal
• Can convert one cabinet leg into a breakfast bar
• Efficient work triangle

5.L-shaped Layout

An L-shaped kitchen is often the best solution where the kitchen can fit into a corner, and ideal for a family kitchen, or for entertaining guests, since it can easily accommodate table and chairs in the same room. Using two adjacent walls, the kitchen also benefits from the lack of through-traffic. The sink, range and fridge should be separated by a preparation area.
Feature:
• Very flexible layout design
• Work areas are close to each other
• Major appliances can be placed in a variety of areas
• Can easily convert to a U-Shape with a cabinet leg addition

Ergonomic Kitchen Work Triangle

When speaking of ergonomics, you may have heard the term "work triangle". This is a design idea and originally came from a study by Cornell University in the 1950's. Interior Designers still recognize the work triangle as the ideal basis for your kitchen plan.
So what is kitchen work triangle? How does it make your kitchen more efficient?
The kitchen work triangle is probably the most researched and applied ergonomic principle around. It is the centerpiece of most kitchen layouts. The goals of a good kitchen work triangle are to place the three most common work sites the most efficient distance apart and to minimize traffic through the work zone.

In the traditional kitchen the three main work sites are:
• Sink - the cleaning/preparation work site
• Stove - the cooking work site
• Refrigerator - the cold storage work site

These represent the three points of the kitchen work triangle. If you place these too close to each other you have a cramped kitchen without any place to work. If they are too far away from each other you waste a lot of steps while preparing a meal.

Below are the basics of kitchen work triangle:
• Household traffic should not flow through the work triangle.
• No obstructions (cabinets, islands, etc.) should intersect a leg of the work triangle.
• The total length of all three legs should be between 12 and 26 feet.
• Each leg of the triangle should be between 4 and 9 feet.

Oppein, the largest manufacturer of kitchen products like kitchen cabinets in Asia, can provide a perfect solution for your kitchen work triangle.

Kitchen Island or Peninsula– Create a Faddish Kitchen

People always pursue the good whole quality of kitchens. The kitchen cabinets are the key of kitchen design. As a result, it is quite important for us to choose a set of right kitchen cabinet which is coming along with both practicability and modern atmosphere. Since the space of kitchen become larger and larger, the traditional kitchen layouts, such as the “Line Shape”, “U Shape” and “L Shape”, cannot satisfy customs’ need of practicability and aesthetics. Which kitchen design can meet your requirements perfectly? A kitchen cabinet concomitant with a kitchen island or kitchen peninsula can do so and it is the most fashionable kitchen cabinet design so far.

The kitchen peninsula is a peninsula linked with the whole kitchen cabinet. The peninsula stretches perpendicularly from a wall attached item straight towards a vacant space. There are two utilizations of such a peninsula. It firstly can be used as an operating desk and people can do simple cuisine on it. The underside of operating desk can be used for storage. Secondly, you can place several stools under the desk instead of drawers and make the peninsula become a platform for communications between you and your family while you are cooking.

The kitchen island is an isolated island in the kitchen, which is a free standing kitchen component. This design is more popular than the peninsular one, because they have a higher degree of freedom in practice. You can set a discrete kitchen sink, cooking stove or “breakfast bar” on the island. An island should essentially be placed at least 90cm from your kitchen sink, to permit convenience to move.

A kitchen island and peninsula are both excellent ways to expand your storage and counter area as well as establish your kitchen borders. The rational usage of them can make your kitchen both fashionable and practical.
